Wei Chen is an Associate Professor of Operations and Information Management (OPIM) at the School of Business, University of Connecticut. He is also the academic director of the UConn Digital Frontiers Initiative, which aims to facilitate collaborations between industry and academia, with a current emphasis on the business applications of generative AI.

Wei's research studies platforms & crowds, financial technologies (FinTech), and the design and governance of generative AI. Utilizing theoretical models and granular data, he seeks to provide rigorous evidence to inform system and market design in these areas. His work has been published in leading academic journals, such as Management Science, Information Systems Research, and MIS Quarterly.

  • Mar 21, 2024: I gave a talk about our recent paper about the transprancy of foundation models and firms' strategic fine-tuning efforts in a research seminar at the Rady School of Management, UC San Diego.
  • Feb 23, 2024: We started the Digital Frontiers Seminar series with a talk about "Generative AI and the Future of Business" at UConn Stamford.
  • Jan 23, 2024: I gave a talk about GenAI for Document Summarization at the AI Lunch and Learn discussion with Nassau Financial Group and other folks in Hartford.
  • Jan 11, 2024: I gave a talk to high school students at the Academy of Information Technology and Engineering (AITE) in Stamford.
  • Nov 8, 2023: I gave a talk about Generative AI and the Future of Business at the Fifteen Associates, an investment group in Hartford.
  • Aug 23, 2023: I joined the UConn School of Business as an Associate Professor in the Operations and Information Management Department, with an additional appointment as the Academic Director of the Connecticut Information Technology Institute.
